Sell gift vouchers

Issue a gift voucher, hand over a printable card, and redeem it when the recipient comes to ride.

Someone wants to give a ride as a present. Issue a gift voucher in Nose, hand the buyer a printable card, and use the voucher up when the recipient comes to ride.

Before your first sale

Open Settings → Voucher settings once.

  • Allow instructors to issue vouchers — leave it off if only you sell them.
  • Allow custom voucher discounts — turn it on if you ever sell a voucher for less than its regular price.
  • Default validity — how long a new voucher lasts. You can still change it on each voucher.

A Pass voucher also needs at least one pass set up under Settings → Passes. The other switches are explained in Pass & voucher setup.

Steps

  1. Go to Passes, tap Issue pass, then switch Issue type to Voucher.
  2. Choose the Voucher kind: Amount voucher for a sum of money, Rides voucher for a number of rides of one ride type, or Pass voucher for one of your passes.
  3. Give it a Display name, such as "Birthday rides for Ola", and fill in what it's worth: the amount, the rides and ride type, or the Pass template.
  4. Under Recipient, pick an Existing customer, or choose New recipient and type the name that should go on the card.
  5. Check the price. Tap Add discount if you're selling it for less.
  6. Set the Payment method to how the buyer paid. If someone else made the sale, choose them under Sold by.
  7. Check Valid until and tap Issue voucher.
  8. Nose opens the new voucher. On its Download tab, tap Download PDF or Download PNG, then print the card or send it to the buyer.

When the recipient comes to ride

Check them out of the ride as usual: in the ride's Allocate & Settle tab, tap the wallet button next to their name, choose Pass/voucher and pick the voucher.

  • If the recipient wasn't on your list when you sold it, the voucher shows under Suggested with a name match badge. If it doesn't, type the code from the card into the search box.
  • If an amount voucher doesn't cover the whole ride, the rest shows as Remaining. Take it in cash or by card.
  • A Pass voucher isn't used at the ride directly. Open it from Passes, tap Convert to pass, then settle the ride with the new pass.

If something's off

  • "Configure pass presets in stable settings first." You chose Pass voucher but have no passes set up yet. Add one under Settings → Passes, then start again.
  • A typo in the name, or the wrong expiry date. Open the voucher and tap Edit to change its name, recipient or validity.
  • A Pass voucher for someone who wasn't on your list. Before you tap Convert to pass, add them to People, then Edit the voucher and pick them as an Existing customer. Otherwise the pass won't be in their name.
  • Sold by mistake. An admin can open the voucher and tap Cancel voucher, as long as it hasn't been used yet.

What you'll notice

  • A voucher for an existing customer appears under Passes in their app straight away.
  • Each use is listed on the voucher's Usage tab, and its Overview shows what is left.
  • About a week before it runs out, a recipient with a Nose account gets a reminder. A voucher for a New recipient gets no reminders until it's linked to someone.
  • Converting a Pass voucher starts the pass's validity on that day, not on the day the voucher was sold.
