Your first shift

For barn staff: sign in on your phone or the barn tablet, clock in and out, check off the care round and leave a note.

On this page

You work in the barn: mucking out, feeding, turning out, getting horses ready for rides. By the end of your first shift you'll have signed in, clocked in and out, checked off your part of the care round, and left a note for whoever comes next. Reading this takes about 10 minutes.

1 · Sign in · 5 minutes, before the shift

The barn sends you an invitation email. Open the link and tap Accept invitation. That signs you in and adds you to the barn in one go. There's no password, now or later: next time you sign in with your email and either a link or a one-time code.

  • On your phone: sign in once and stay signed in, so the clock is always one tap away.
  • On the barn's shared tablet: sign in as yourself. The clock and every task you check carry the name of whoever is signed in, so tap Sign out when you hand the tablet on. On a phone-sized screen it's under More.

→ Accepting an invitation

2 · Find your way around · 5 minutes

  • Schedule opens on today's day view if you're a helper: horses down the side, rides across the top, and who rides which horse when. You can read it; instructors and admins change rides.
  • Care is today's care round, task by task, for every horse and for the barn.
  • Roster shows your shifts this week. On a phone it's under More.
  • Contacts is the barn's phone book, for when you need the vet or the farrier.

3 · Start your clock · a few seconds

The Your duty today card sits at the top of Care and of the Roster page. It lists your shifts for today.

  1. Tap Start when you begin work. The card shows how long you've been at it.
  2. Tap Stop when you finish.
  3. Back for the evening shift? Tap Start again.

4 · Work through the care round · your shift

Open Care. Each row is one job (a feed, a medicine, a blanket, a barn chore), with the horse it's for and the part of the day.

  1. Do the job, then tap the check at the end of its row. The row shows Done, your name and the time.
  2. If a horse isn't there (out on a ride, away at a show), tap the skip arrow on its row instead (where there is one), so nobody thinks it was forgotten.
  3. Checked the wrong row? Tap the undo arrow that took the check's place. If there isn't one, ask an instructor or the owner.

→ Run today's care round

5 · Leave a note · 1 minute

  1. On a task, tap the speech-bubble icon next to the check. Check off with a note opens.
  2. Write what matters in a few words, for example "ate only half" or "blanket torn at the chest".
  3. Tap Done. The task is checked, with your note next to your name.

Spotted something that isn't on the board, like a broken bucket or a loose board? Tap Add task: it lands in the Barn group for whoever picks it up. As a helper you can't add a task for a particular horse, so tell an instructor or the owner about anything to do with a horse's health.

6 · Finish the shift · 2 minutes

  1. Tap Stop on Your duty today.
  2. Open Roster and check that today's hours look right.

If a time is wrong, tap it on the card and fix it there.

If something's off

  • No clock card, and no Roster in the menu? The barn hasn't turned on the Roster, or hasn't put you on the team yet. Ask the owner.
  • You forgot to stop the clock. Nose closes it at the end of the day. Next time you open the card it asks When did work really end?: confirm the time or correct it.
  • Teaching as well? Your rides count by themselves, straight from the schedule. Use the clock for barn work only.
  • The sign-in link doesn't arrive. Check your spam folder, or sign in with a one-time code instead.

You're live when…

  • you can sign in on the phone or tablet you'll use in the barn;
  • you've seen Your duty today and started and stopped the clock once;
  • you've checked off at least one task on Care;
  • you've left one note with Check off with a note;
  • today's hours show up on the Roster page.

Leave this for later

  • Ask for a day off: one button on the Roster page.
  • Fixing or adding time for an earlier day, from My week.
  • The barn’s roster: the whole team's week, to read.
  • Notification settings for roster changes.

All of these are in Clock, corrections and days off.
